Well, we encountered our first hurdle! Bed Bugs! AHHHHH! There are some things I can "tough it through" and some that make me want to run to the nearest Four Seasons- at the top of that list is Bed Bugs!! Praise the Lord only one person in our group got bitten about 100 times by them all over his feet and legs and of course, it's the marine- Stephen. He hasn't said a peep about it and we all guess it is better than a sandstorm or an IED grenade blowing up beside your head! It's just funny because who knew the expression "Don't let the bed bugs bite" had any validity or relevance to real life. The hostel was more than gracious and apologetic and even hacked the bed to pieces and threw the mattress out. Needless to say Stephen got a new room and a few nights stay free of charge. We had to self diagnose here in Turkey, but luckily Jenny King was to the rescue with the computer! Here she is above showing a picture of a bed bug. Minutes later we confirmed these little creatures when we found literally hundreds under Stephen's mattress!!!! Don't think for a minute we didn't all search our rooms intensely but luckily no bed bugs to be found, but there were a few days of no hot water, yes you heard me right- we also lost hot water. Don't think lukewarm shower- think freezing cold, and as Bob puts it "Get in, get wet, get out!!"
What's bizzare about this is nothing- we just went to the Grand Bizzare!! Here is Jenny also jumping for joy amidst the many Pashminas! Would you believe just strolling down the center of the Bizzare we ran into a handful of friends from Stanford- the world really is a small place.
To feel the real authenticity of the Bizzare, Chris Harris got a shave- by me, above, and a hair cut before all the boys sipped tea with a few local Turks!

When I was traveling last semester, I was unfortunate to also experience bed bugs in one of our hostels. It really sucks and I hope no one else gets them on your trip. Tell Stephen to hang in there...they will take about a week to fully disappear. I know you're in a foreign country, but if you can get your hands on cortisone cream it works the best and most importnantly...NO SCRATCHING!
Hugs to all!!!
Oh my Gosh now Jenny is jumping it is truly contagious!!!!
Chris run for dear life and don't
let Ashley shave anything for you.
